Scruffy bark
looking slightly unkempt
showing its age
Resting near the shore, but busy
soaking up 30 gallons of water a day.
Golden red buds
oozing with essence
sticking to everything they touch
looking like flowers against the blue sky
waiting to heal you.

I find that often it is the plants and trees that we find annoying that give us the most help when we are having tough times, or are out in the bush and need a pain reliever or healer because we have injured ourselves. They are extremely versatile and useful for supporting humans. Trees like willow and poplar; plants like plantain, dandelion, burdock, nettle, and chickweed, that grow all over, are easy to find and ready to help. We treat them very poorly considering you can use many of them not only for food and well-being, but also for making in to useful items for house and garden.

Yes, I know. These are cottonwood buds. Any botanist would be having fits because I have lumped them together with regular poplar here. Carpenters will be getting nervous because the woods are different. I, on the other hand, look at them growing side by side and know they both bring gratitude within me. They are both early species that heal the earth. They both drink up a load of water in wet areas. They feed many of the same bugs, and thusly, bird species.
I come here now and then to rest my mind and relieve my stress by staring up at the sky through the leaves and branches. I imagine myself resting peacefully in a hammock that gently sways in the breeze. When I am looking up, I release all the challenges of the day and the troubles of the world seem to subside. I can exhale and stop holding myself tense. After a few moments I can return to the noise and chaos around with a calmer demeanor, realizing that it is all in the perspective one holds.
