The scent of pine sap
in summer heat.
Pine pollen
drifting in the breeze.
Rich bark colours.
Needles spreading out pertly
like strategically placed ballerina tutus.
Cones
growing scales
in spiralling geometric ratios
that open and close
according to weather.
The secrets that you hold
right here
in plain sight.
I breathe easy
relax
close my eyes
listen to the Ravens talk
while the Eagle perches high
atop a barren branch.
Thank you.

This tall pine has been there for 70 years that I know about, and it was big when I first met it. There used to be a mate beside it, but it had to be cut down several years ago as it was rotting, and becoming a danger hazard. I was sad to see it go. There are a few sparse branches atop that the eagles like to rest in and watch for fish. Pines have been revered as sacred trees by many people of diverse cultures around the world because of their longevity, strength and resilience. |
Pine pollen has been used in medicines for centuries. It has a grainy powder consistency and has been added to mixtures to assist with various health conditions. Pine sap is also used as an incense resin. It has a wonderful smell reminiscent of the tree itself. It is what you smell on a hot summer's day in the pine woods. The sap droplets that heal the tree's wounds will exude their aroma in the heat. It heals us too.
